Earthster demonstrated in "Competing in the Green Marketplace" Workshop

June 29th, 2010   |   Anonymous

Portsmouth, NH, May 21, 2010 - The Earthster LCA software, allowing companies and government agencies to engage their supply chain on environmental and social issues, was demonstrated in a one-day workshop, organized with the University of New Hampshire (UNH), in Portsmouth end of May. Special guest was Nancy Hirshberg, Stonyfield Farm.

Introduced by UNH's Kevin Gardner, Greg Norris (Earthster) explained how to use Life Cycle Assessment to gain competitive advantage. "The future of business requires that companies gather information about their products", he said, "and doing so does not have to be complex and time-consuming".

Earthster's Catherine Benoit presented the key social challenges business can face with regard to their own operations and those in their supply chain: impacts on their labor force, the community and human rights. The available data can be overwhelming and of various quality. Prioritizing - "where are the hotspots" - and finding reliable sources therefor makes sense.

Earthster is an innovative tool which allows companies to gather the environmental and social data with a minimum of time, costs and risks, working with their suppliers in a dynamic and open fashion, without compromizing the privacy of individual businesses. An interactive demonstration with the audience in an active role provided deep insight and interest.

Nancy HIrshberg, Vice President Natural Resources, Stonyfield Farm, presented lessons learnt over two decades of , using life cycle thinking to minimize environmental impact and maximize profits. Earthster's support, she said, has recently been very important for the success of the program.
